The cat is modeled directly into the walls of the vase.
This is both a feat of sculptor and ceramist.
This vase is in excellent condition. It is not signed and it is significant of the work of this artist.
Thomas Cartier, renowned animal sculptor, settled in Saint Amand en Puisaye in 1918, he settled in the former Pichard pottery belonging to Clément Maubrou.
He remained there until 1920. Lucien Arnaud then took his place. (Information taken from the excellent site “Grès de Puisaye”).
