Ohannès Alhazian was born in 1881 in Van, Armenia, where he lived until the age of sixteen.
He studied art in Constantinople.
He moved to Europe in 1901. He continued his art studies in Munich.
There he met Vardges Sureniants, another great Armenian painter.
He arrived in Paris in 1904. He attended Cormon's classes. He exhibited regularly at the Salons d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants. He became a member of the Société des artistes Indépendants.
Although he excelled in portraiture, he painted mainly landscapes. France, Armenia, and Finland also inspired him. He returned to Armenia in the 1920s. In 1925, he organized the first exhibition of modern art in Armenia.
He died in 1958.
