He began painting at the age of 14 and received his first guidance from his cousin, the Dieppe painter Léon Gambier.
At the age of 17, with his parents' consent and on the promise of becoming a drawing teacher (which he did in 1951 at the advanced courses in the City of Paris workshops), Michel King abandoned his studies in metalwork to enter the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
His teachers included François Desnoyer and Marcel Gimond.
He was appointed an official painter of the French Navy in 1973 and became a full member in 1986.
He also served as president of the Official Painters of the Navy and of the Salon du Dessin et de la Peinture à l'Eau (Drawing and Watercolor Exhibition)  from 1998 to 2002.
Appointed Knight of the National Order of Merit in 2004, he also became President of the National Society of Fine Arts in 2012.
He died in January 2025 at the age of 94.
He participated in numerous exhibitions.
His works are present in many collections, including those of the City of Guilvinec, the Maritime Museum, the Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris, and the Museum of Les Baux-de-Provence.
